What’s so special about Google Pixel 3 Camera?
If you’ve experienced a Pixel phone before, none of this should come as a blow. The majority of what makes this camera so unique is Google’s software – its auto-HDR features, the computational knowledge and the Pixel’s Visual Core.
The snaps captured with Google’s camera are simply stunning, for example, shots of food are so stuffed with detail you can see flecks of salt; expressions on people’s faces showing intricate detailing in skin and hair that is often beyond what human eyes can see.
Even though detail is crammed into the photos, nothing looks oversharpened or artificial, and colors have a natural appearance.
Where iPhone XS or Samsung Galaxy S9 boost greens and reds to almost neon levels, the Pixel 3 manages to ensure colors look tempting without being over-saturated.
The range between the light and dark colors, Dynamic range once again thoroughly impresses here in the third version of Pixel Camera App. This gives photos a real professional finish, ensuring nothing looks flat.
Portrait Mode has made its return with Pixel 3 Camera and this with a single sensor – not with two sensors as most cameras do.
This is probably the most reliable portrait mode you have ever used: silkily blurring the background and keeping the subject in sharp focus.
Does some struggle with hats and glasses, pixel 3 is great at perfectly cutting around the hair. The intensity of the photos can be altered after they have been taken.
What are some new features in Pixel 3 Camera App by Google?
Google has introduced a couple of new camera software features in Pixel 3 app. One is Night Sight, a steadfast low-light mode that heavily specific to boost brightness similarly to the Huawei P20 Pro.
Even with the Night Sight mode switched off the camera still takes very impressive low-light photos and doesn’t boost the brightness in the sky to artificial lengths – the feature which is missed in iPhone XS Max and Samsung Galaxy Note 9.
Turning the Night Sight on however let you produce better shots in situations where there’s literally no light at all. And these shots look great than what your eyes can see.
Another new feature in pixel 3 camera is the Super-Res Zoom and the one that looks to offset the lack of a secondary – a slightly zoomed-in-sensor.
Google in its 3rd edition of pixel cameras is making an effort to somehow combine different shots together to try and improve the digital zoom. Effects are better than other iterations of digital zoom, and you can see below for an example of the different levels of zoom.
Pixel 3 Camera app introduces the ‘Top Shot’ feature that aims to ensure a picture isn’t affected by a rogue head or someone randomly blinking.
Top shot mode works well in conditions where you don’t have enough time to set up a shot properly. With this mode turned on the camera captures multiple shots of a photo and by swiping up on a particular picture, you can scroll through them all.
