Raiyumi’s Cat Bird is a new edition in a long line of retro-inspired platforms on mobile. The game is got the usual pixel visuals, minimal three buttons to tap, and a chiptune soundtrack.
Cat Bird reaps most of its cues from Super Meat Boy, where each level is dotted with traps to avoid, difficult platforming segments, and hidden items to collect.
You as a player have to be very precise, focusing pinpoint jumps and perfect timings to avoid the worst each level has to offer. One of the good things is that the controls are completely reliable. So you can’t recall a single time you died because of control issues. If you died it will always be your fault.
As the name of the game suggests, Cat Bird allows you to get hold of jump button to glide at any point you want. This gives you a little more time to ensure you’ll land successfully. And it’s a godsend. The touch controls might be efficient, but they’ll never compare to a real controller. This mechanic takes away that problem completely.
