Developed & published by Gameloft Barcelona, Asphalt 8: Airborne is a 2013 racing video game, which was released for Android and iOS on August 22, 2013.
What type of game is Asphalt 8: Airborne?
The game is an arcade racing adventure, which at its most intense and exhilarating, with you taking on a series of events where you ride like a lunatic.
The gameplay of Asphalt 9: Airborne
The gameplay of Asphalt 8: Airborne is quite similar to that of Asphalt 7: Heat, with the player given four control options: “Tilt and icons”, “Tilt to steer”, “On-screen controls”, and “Tap to steer.”
There’s a five-star rating system in each, and the use of primary and secondary objectives has been retained in Asphalt 8: Airborne. Three stars are given for finishing in the first place, two for the second, and one for third.
Achieving secondary objectives, like performing a given number of stunts or knocking down challengers awards the player with two additional stars.
Receiving stars in an event is cumulative – players who finished first in an event without finishing the secondary objectives may replay the race and get a five-star rating even if the primary objectives are not met.
The core gameplay of Asphalt 8: Airborne is slightly different, however. The biggest induction here is the presence of high-speed aerial stunts. There are two kinds of stunts you can perform: flat spin and barrel roll.
To perform flat spin, you have to drive off a flat ramp. Depending upon the speed and the height, the game considers how many spins your car performs. Even if you fall down facing the other way the car spins around and you can drive off just fine without losing too much of your speed.
Doing a barrel roll takes a bit more effort, as you have to ride off one of the angled ramps and your car pretty much does everything else on its own. Based on how well you drove off the ramp and the height of your jump, the car will execute a single, double or even a triple barrel roll. Most often the car finishes the roll before it hits the ground and won’t start another if it thinks it won’t make it–but at times you do end up on your roof, which results in a wreck.
Stunts in Asphalt 8: Airborne is pretty much the exclusive worthwhile addition to the gameplay in Airborne. The game has been classified into the single player solo race, single player career, local multiplayer and multiplayer over WiFi.
The solo races are where you can select a car, choose a track & race type, and place a single race. Your choice is limited to the vehicles and tracks that unlocked in the career mode.
The career mode of Asphalt 8: Airborne has been categorized into eight seasons, with each season featuring several races. To progress to the next season, you need to earn a particular amount of stars, which can be achievable through winning competitions.
