A survival horror game by Creative Assembly, Alien: Isolation is based on the Alien science fiction horror film series. It is set 15 years after the happenings of the 1979 Alien film and follows Amanda Ripley, daughter of Alien warrior Ellen Ripley, as she searches the disappearance of her mother.
Gameplay of Alien: Isolation
This game – unlike previous game adaptations of the Alien franchise – emphasizes more on stealth and survivor horror gameplay, prompting the player to restrain and outsmart a single alien creature with tools such as a flamethrower and a motion tracker.
Alien: Isolation is a single-player action-adventure game where you controls Amanda Ripley from a first-person perspective. During your play, you must look for a space station and complete operations while avoiding, defeating, and outsmarting enemies.
The featured objectives/missions range from activating computers to receiving certain items or reaching a specific area in the game.
While you’re playing Alien: Isolation, you can run, sneak into vents, climb leaders, and crouch behind objects to cut the line of sight with foes. You can also hide from your enemies by going under tables or inside lockers in Alien: Isolation.
Amanda’s adventures in Alien: Isolation
Amanda as a leading character in this game will encounter several antagonists, including androids and hostile humans. These can be thrown with gunplay or other offensive means.
The main antagonist – an alien creature – pursues Amanda throughout the game. The alien creature cannot be destroyed, thus requiring the player to use stealth tactics to stay alive.
Along the way, Amanda can use both a motion tracker and a flashlight to detect the Alien’s movements. However, any of these increases the chance of the Alien finding the characters. For example, if the Alien is close enough, the tracker’s sound will attract him, forcing Amanda to use the tracker wisely or remove it as soon as it detects the motion.
The same is the case with your motion detector, as it only detects when the Alien is moving and not when he’s up in the ducts or on the ground level.

How you can save your progress in Alien: Isolation?
There’s an automap, helping the player navigate the different areas of the game. You can save your progress by locating a terminal and inserting Amanda’s access card. If Amanda dies, you must restart from the last saved point.
Critics’ response to Alien: Isolation
The response to Alien: Isolation was mostly favorable. The Electronic Gaming Monthly’s Josh Harmon felt that Alien: Isolation “succeeds as a remarkable effort to capture the essence of the film franchise in a playable form.
Writer for GameSpot, Kevin VanOrd described the game as a tense and frightening one, stating that “when all mechanics are performing as intended, alien-evasion is dread distilled into its purest, simplest form.”
